The goal of this field of research is focusing on the production, storage and applications of hydrogen; developing hydrogen production techniques from water; and, in particular, designing and implementing hydrogen production systems based on electrolysis. Currently, experimental tests with hydrogen storage in medium pressure tanks are being carried out in the form of metal hydrides dealing with instrumentation, the control of the processes of loading and unloading tanks, and developing monitoring systems (SCADA system). PE type battery technology is also being developed.

For this field of research the group has a photovoltaic, wind and energy efficiency laboratory from which, among other activities, the different installations available to the group are monitored including photovoltaic, wind, energy efficiency of the following: soil characterisation; home refurbishment; geothermal; etc. The areas of research also deal with the electronic and electrical design of systems for renewable energies, which consist of integrating renewable energies into the electrical networks and the measurement of the quality of the electrical supply.

In the research field of intelligent electricity grids the design, modelling, simulation and physical implementation of intelligent electrical grids based on renewable energy sources are approached, which integrate self-contained energy management systems.

This field of research aims at providing ideas that help transform the current transport system into another that is safety, environmentally and socially sustainable and that will contribute to the economic and social well-being worldwide without depleting natural resources or destroying the environment. The research area also focuses on technology dissemination, promotion and teaching involved in the field of sustainable mobility at different levels.

The research field of electronic power systems has among its main objectives the (hardware/software) design of high-efficiency power conditioners. For this purpose, the electronic prototyping laboratory is involved with numerous prototypes for different projects that have been developed and continue to be produced today mainly related to the specific needs of renewable energy installations and intelligent networks.

This field of research aims at establishing a theoretical reference framework that allows for the design of controllers that guarantee the stability of completely non-linear general systems both in continuous and discrete time, and where the dynamics are not explicitly known. Within the activities carried out in the field of research, the necessary algorithms for the application of this theoretical framework to real cases are developed.

The objective of this area of research is the study of remotely-piloted aircraft systems (RPAS) including the development of hardware-software for specific applications.

This field of research aims at reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions associated with energy consumption in cities and buildings.

In order to achieve this, we are working on the implementation of the minimum energy consumption building (MEB) model, which encompasses the concept of a building with almost zero energy consumption (nZEB) and its evolution towards a building with zero energy consumption (ZEB) as well as a building with a positive energy balance (+ZEB).

The passive design of buildings, the improvement of associated systems and facilities, the integration renewable energies (solar photovoltaic, wind, geothermal, and hydrogen), the energy rehabilitation, consulting and instrumentation and data analysis for the improvement of energy efficiency in buildings and cities constitute our DNA as the field of research action.

The objective of this field of research is to develop tools and web environments based on teaching innovation that can improve the deficiencies of formal university learning. These resources seek to help the development of student skills by encouraging critical thinking, supporting decision-making, monitoring academic performance and facilitating telematic access to the distant teaching environment. The area of research also aims at improving students’ knowledge of complex theoretical-practical concepts that are traditionally limited by rigid teaching methodologies as well as the development of hardware and software tools necessary for network experiments in laboratories of different areas of knowledge: electrical engineering; electronic engineering; physics, etc.
